# Social Media (via Notion)

> Keep your posts in a Notion Social Media Calendar database, and optionally let NotionSocial publish them at their scheduled time across all your social platforms.

Use a Notion **Social Media Calendar** database as the home for the posts Notis creates, so every caption and image is stored, reviewable, and ready to schedule. Add [NotionSocial](https://notionsocial.app/?aref=notisai) to publish those entries automatically.

## What this setup does

**Notis handles the AI work**: generating post ideas, drafting captions, creating images, and saving entries into your Social Media Calendar database. With the database in place, Notis can:

* Save a copy of every post it creates (caption, image, target platforms) in the calendar

* Adjust image sizes and caption lengths per platform based on the description of your database

**NotionSocial handles the scheduling and publishing** (optional): it watches your database for new entries and publishes them to your connected social accounts at the scheduled time.

  That split is important: Notis is your creation layer, while NotionSocial is your scheduling and publishing layer. Everything stays inside Notion, no separate dashboard needed.

## Prerequisites

* A Notis workspace [connected to your Notion](/notion/connect-notion)

* A Social Media Calendar database in Notion (included in the Notis Second Brain template, or create your own with at least a title property)

* For scheduled publishing: a [NotionSocial](https://notionsocial.app/?aref=notisai) account with at least one connected social account (X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Facebook, or Pinterest)

## Step 1: Set up your Social Media Calendar database

The Notis Second Brain already contains a [Social Media Calendar database](/notion/second-brain) set up for you.

  You can easily make a Social Media Calendar database or customize the one that comes with the template. Just make sure it has a title property and Notis will understand it should be used for social media.

## Step 2: Ask Notis to use it

> *Post this now on Twitter and Instagram and add a copy in my social media database.*

> *Write a caption about productivity for this image and save it to my Social Media Calendar for tomorrow.*

  Notis adjusts image sizes and caption lengths per platform based on the description of your Social Media Calendar database. Feel free to tweak those fields to match your preferences. See [database instructions](/notion/database-instructions).

If you only want Notis to draft and store posts, you can stop here. The next steps add scheduled publishing with NotionSocial.

## Step 3: Create your NotionSocial account

Go to [notionsocial.app](https://notionsocial.app/?aref=notisai) and sign up. NotionSocial costs **\$15/month** on top of your Notis subscription.

## Step 4: Connect NotionSocial to your Notion database

1. In NotionSocial, connect your Notion workspace when prompted.

2. Select the **Social Media Calendar** database that Notis already uses (from the Notis Second Brain template), or use the NotionSocial template directly.

3. NotionSocial will sync with this database and watch for new entries.

  If you already connected Notis to the Notis Second Brain template and use the included Social Media Calendar, you can skip giving Notis separate access: it's already connected.

## Step 5: Connect your social media accounts in NotionSocial

In NotionSocial, connect the social platforms you want to publish to:

* X (Twitter)

* Instagram

* LinkedIn (personal + company pages)

* TikTok

* YouTube

* Threads

* Facebook

* Pinterest

<Warning>
  If you choose to use NotionSocial, **do not connect your social media accounts in the Notis portal**. Notis will create entries in your Social Media Calendar database and NotionSocial will handle the actual scheduling and posting. Connecting both would cause duplicate posts.

## Step 6: Let Notis create, let NotionSocial publish

Once everything is connected, just talk to Notis as usual:

> *"Post this at a random time in the next 7 days on all my socials. Caption: 'Human in the loop in AI is not a bug, it's a feature'. Add a funny square cartoon strip."*

Notis will:

1. Generate the image

2. Write or use your caption

3. Create an entry in your Social Media Calendar database with the scheduled date

NotionSocial will:

1. Detect the new entry

2. Publish it to all your connected platforms at the scheduled time

## Example workflow

1. **Tell Notis what to post:** Send a voice note or text message with your content idea, an image, or a brief.

2. **Notis drafts the post:** It generates an image (if needed), writes the caption, and creates an entry in your Social Media Calendar database with a scheduled date.

3. **Review in Notion:** Open your Social Media Calendar to review, tweak captions, or adjust the schedule.

4. **NotionSocial publishes automatically:** At the scheduled time, NotionSocial posts to all your connected platforms with the right formatting.

## Automating post creation

You can set up a Notis automation to automatically turn new content into social posts:

1. In the [Notis Portal](https://app.notis.ai), open the **Automations** tab and create a new automation.

2. Choose a trigger that runs when new content is created (e.g. a webhook from your CMS or a Notion trigger).

3. Add instructions telling Notis to create social media entries in your database for each platform, with captions, media, and scheduled dates.

NotionSocial picks up the new entries and handles the rest.

## Troubleshooting

* **Notis does not save the post in the calendar:** Make sure the database has a title property and is [connected to Notis](/notion/connect-notion), and name it in your prompt.

* **Wrong sizes or caption lengths:** Update the platform fields in the database description, Notis reads it on every save.

* **Posts not publishing:** Confirm NotionSocial is connected to the correct Notion database and your social accounts are active in NotionSocial.

* **Duplicate posts:** Make sure you have **not** also connected social media accounts directly in the Notis portal. Only one publishing path should be active.

* **Wrong database:** Verify that both Notis and NotionSocial are pointing to the same Social Media Calendar database in Notion.
